Aurora Weekly Update : Week 5
Morning All,
An eventful weekend as ever for myself and an eventful week for Aurora too!
More Magic to Come
In the next few weeks you’ll see the fruits of our new resident artist, MonkeyAbout, come to light with a new way to get involved in Aurora. Its just what you asked for and we hope you will take it up and spread the good news! To co-inside with this we will start publishing PR reports to the blogosphere when we have any BIG announcements – should help you get the news a lot faster!
Kernel Development
Our Brilliant Kernel Team are working ever vigilant on making sure the Atom and Celeron specific kernels are the bee’s knees! We have worked directly from information supplied from our users and from the hardware specifications available for vast netbook models to ensure maximum compatibility – at present support on the teams netbooks is at 100% inc function keys so its going well! We will be rolling these kernels into the test repository over the next few weeks. On this back of this…..
…Aurora Compatibility List
With the launch of our netbook specific kernels we will see our generic and pae kernel follow shortly behind! To test out our new kernels we will also be launching our compatibility list on the Aurora Wiki. We want users to submit their netbook, level of support, guides used for various support, etc. We are aiming to then have a good list of compatible netbooks which other users can check to ensure their device works correctly!
Exogenesis Update
Exogenesis is picking up development speed with another developer joining the fray! Steve has been working vigilantly on timezone and locale support and its coming along well. We will be putting a more detailed article about Exogenesis up in the future outlining some of the features and differences from other installers out there.
Socializing
Its something we all use the web for in some way now but what sites do we use? As part of some new additions to the site we will be adding our presence to a number of other social sites. We have setup a new facebook page specifically for Aurora , Our Twitter Group, We have a page on Reddit, A profile on Linkedin, New RSS feeds and a profile on identi.ca . If you feel we would benefit having our presence on any other sites then please let us know! We are also looking for users who are interested in looking after these social profiles and keeping them up to date.
And finally
With the news last week then gnome is deferring their 3.0 release to next march we are working on pushing the gnome 2.32 packages to the testing repository as they become available. It should be interesting to see how much work gets deferred till March and how much stays in the 2.32 release.
A lot more work on the way and a lot more ways to get involved! If your interested then just contact the team via the Website or Forums.
