Aurora Weekly Update : Week 7

Wait Wait… where was week 6?

Due to a number of new changed we didn’t post a week 6 update ( would have been a bit uneventful! ). Instead we have a number of updates due this week to sink your teeth into :D

The team are working faster then ever and are going to finalize the steps to release in the next week. This will mean we can outline the changes and additions needed before we release a Beta 2 / RC \Final release :)

Further Core work (Banshee, Hal, System D and more).

The newest version of banshee unstable (1.7.4) has deprecated hal so the only remaining project using this is the gnome project ( due for full deprecation in the gnome 2.32 release this sept :D ). This along with the change to udev and dbus puts us in good stead to implement System D in the near future. This plans for how to do this will be discussed at a team meeting this weekend ( will report on the decisions from this next week ).

Installer News

Work on Exogenesis installer seems to have jumped ahead afew light years in the last 2 weeks – we will be putting up some screen shots and more information later this week as an insider look at the Exogenesis development.

Website News : New social networks

Some periodic changes to the site went live this week including all the latest news right there on the home page! It pulls in data from this blog so you can see a quick snippet of the next each time you load the main site! Also we have added some new promotional material and added some content to a few pages…..

Marketing Aurora

As part of our open pledge to all our users ( and the vote you cast on how to get involved) we have put together a marketing section on the main site. This is a valuable resource of information on how you can spread the news of Aurora. We will be adding more resources and information as new developments occur. For now we have created a logo and brand guideline with the aim of ensuring you have as much information if you want to design any new promotional or branding material for contribution to Aurora. We also have a few banners available to download for use on a blog, website or forum footer! If you would be interested in designing your own set then why not!? Put something together and we can discuss making these available on the site too!

Meet the Family

Say hello to our new mascots Auro, Aura and family. Based on a simplified version of the Aurora Orb, with expressive eyes and cables, we hope to use them and their friends to create a more accessible look for new adopters, and add a bit of fun for our existing users.

Currently we have a selection of promotional wallpapers and web banners featuring Auro and friends. Along with plans to include him in the magazine and guides for new users.

We will be looking to create the default images in Inkscape and Gimp format for any user to grab and create their own variants in the near future :)

Any suggestions or feedback will be useful to see what you all think of them!

Jupiter Development and MORE Reviews

Once again Jupiter gets another update over on Webupd8 ! We are rolling new releases as soon as new features are available so expect more and more news of Jupiter’s future! The latest .38 release fixes a bug with WIFI toggle to only use RFKILL so it can be toggled on / off to your hearts content :) For .39 we are looking into enabling the CPUfreq controls for Quad Core processors too!

Another idea in the pipeline is a adjustable cpufreq changer implementation so you can create your own profiles…. would this be useful? feedback as always :D

And Finally….

Stay tuned for more news this week and a detailed post on our installer ( inc some screen shots and possibly even a workflow too! ) Thanks all!

Wow! This sounds so cool. May I ask if the cream project is still on the list? I know Gnome is the look of choice for the beginning. But what about cream?

Thanx for the effort, guys! Really exciting to be part of the Aurora-Com.

    Hi,
I used unetbootin to write eb4 to a flash drive and booted that on an Acer Aspire One.
NICE!!!! I use Linux on several systems and thought I would try Aurora. I am impressed.
